CHERISE TOLBERT - BIOGRAPHY

Cherise Tolbert was raised spending summers every year in the foothills of the green mountains of Vermont, and winters on the Yum-Balam Nature Preserve on the island of Holbox, Mexico. This unique childhood informs her creative perspectives on communications, public speaking, education, business/entrepreneurship, and diversity.

Cherise attended the top communications graduate program in the world, Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and worked closely with world-renowned Pamela Shoemaker. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Vermont, where she studied Communications under the lens of ethical communications in the Community Development and Applied Economics department with a minor in Community and International Development. Cherise is now a young professional that is full of energy and creativity, and loves to design engaging speaking experiences with an academically informed perspective.

Cherise has worked for over a decade as a multi-passionate communications professional who has a knack for seeing the opportunities businesses or organizations are missing out on. Whether for startups, non-profits, or higher education institutions, Cherise finds the heart of stagnancy, which is typically simply the need for assessment and then a creative new approach to both internal and external communication and the systems and processes that support them.
Cherise started a communications consulting business in 2016, focusing on communications audits, communications plan building, entrepreneurial creativity, and community building via social media.

Cherise is also an experienced instructor, who taught at the collegiate level for over six years on topics including Public Speaking, Mass Media, Intro to College Success (career vision and college success skills), Technical and Professional Writing (professional email writing, resumes building, etc…), and Intro to Communications. Cherise also worked at educational institutions in multiple leadership capacities and has a deep knowledge of both colleges themselves and student experiences and needs.

Cherise also cares deeply about the role of ethics in business, especially the environment, diversity, and inclusion. She is personally very intellectually engaged in the newest environmental initiatives and sees the huge potential that business can play in enabling a healthier planet (i.e. regenerative business principles). Cherise also served on the Board of Directors for the Albany, New York-based Refugee Services organization, and has worked with various startups, not-for-profits, non-profits, and educational institutions. She has also served as a guest publisher for top human-resources blogs on topics relating to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
