William B. Malarkey, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Malarkey has been a practicing physician for over 30 years. He received his medical training at the University of Pittsburgh, The Ohio State University, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Colorado. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology. He has received recognition for his clinical expertise and is referred patients from throughout Ohio and surrounding states. He has been on numerous "best doctors" lists in various publications. In September of 1998 he was selected as one of the best doctors in Central Ohio.

Dr. Malarkey has been an internationally recognized researcher in endocrinology, breast cancer, pituitary tumors, and stress research. He is Director of The Ohio State University Clinical Research Center. His work has lead to over 150 research publications and book chapters as well as over 100 published research abstracts, many of which he has presented at national meetings. He has served on numerous national committees and editorial boards. This year he has been nominated for the Ohio State University Distinguished Professor Award which is given annually to several University Professors whose research teaching and other academic achievements have brought national and international attention to Ohio State University.

He speaks frequently at national research meetings, post-graduate education seminars, and on television and radio shows. He is an enthusiastic speaker with lots of energy who is experienced selling ideas about which he is passionate. Every five years he has to defend the productivity of his two million dollar a year clinical research center, which employs 25 individuals, to the critical review of 15 visitors from Washington and the rest of the U.S.A. His research center performs research on diabetes, women's health, AIDS, cancer, obesity, muscular dystrophy, Lou Gehrig's disease, emphysema, renal diseases, hypertension, and stress. Through his various national contacts over the years, he has developed a network of friends who will be very helpful in opening the door to speaking and other book promotional activities. He is frequently interviewed by popular magazines. In September 1998 he was interviewed by Mademoiselle and Men 's Health. He enjoys doing television interviews where he has appeared on local news segments, "CBS Morning News," and a pilot episode for "Forever Young," a program which was recently purchased by the FOX network for national syndication. He has a sequel in mind to this book Retirement: Good Or Bad For Your Health?

OSU MEDICAL CENTER PHYSICIAN PENS BOOK ON AGING

         COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A book on how people can face aging--on their own terms--has been written by a physician at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
         "Take Control of Your Aging" by Dr. William Malarkey is designed as a guide for lifelong well-being and is based on Malarkey's training, experience and study of the numerous body processes such as stress, growth, nutrition and metabolism. He has been an endocrinologist and researcher for more than 30 years.
         In the book, Malarkey shares his knowledge and insights into how physical, intellectual, emotional, relational and spiritual lives influence the aging process and health. The book, available through most book stores, also outlines ways to improve health-related behavior with suggestions that can be easily managed by those with fast-paced lifestyles.
           At Ohio State, Malarkey has been involved in extensive research into the mind-body relationship including internationally recognized studies on the affects of stress on the body.
           Malarkey is a professor in internal medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.
