Joy Lagunzad Kouns is currently the Chair for the Undergraduate
Business and Management at the University of Phoenix, Columbus,
Ohio campus. She is completing her doctorate degree in Organization
and Management with Human Resource Management as the focus area
from Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Joy obtained
her Masters degree in Industrial Relations with concentration
in Human Resource Development from the University of the Philippines.
Joy holds her lifetime Senior Professional in Human Resources
(SPHR) accreditation from the Society of Human Resource Management
and received her certification in Labor Relations from Cleveland
State University.
She is certified national instructor for the American Red Cross
and taught Personnel Practices, Sexual Harassment Prevention Programs,
Performance Management, Valuing Diversity, Effective and Legal
Interviewing and Change Management Programs. Joy has played a
strategic role during Red Cross transformation and provided Organizational
Development programs when Red Cross went through major organizational
changes. Her most recent research papers were in Human
Capital Development, Succession Planning, Change Management, Cultural
Alignment, HR competencies in the 21st century and Strategic HR. She
was the recipient of a scholarship from The Human Resources
Association of Central Ohio to attend the international conference
in Strategic HR in New York last October 2005.
Joy has held director and manager level positions in Human Resources
with the American Red Cross in Columbus, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning
Commission and Nationwide Insurance. In the Philippines, she worked
as HR Manager for Semirara Coal international mining , Engineering
Equipment Incorporated and Vulcan Industrial and Gold Mining Company.
Joy has over two decades of experience as human resource professional
in United States and Asia. She has written numerous articles in
various human resource management topics.
