James Mullaney

James Mullaney is an astronomy writer, lecturer and consultant who has published more than 700 articles and seven books on observing the wonders of the heavens, and logged over 20,000 hours of stargazing time with the unaided eye, binoculars and telescopes. Formerly Curator of the Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science in Pittsburgh and more recently Director of the Dupont Planetarium, he served as staff astronomer at the University of Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Observatory, and as an editor for Astronomy, Sky & Telescope and Star & Sky magazines. One of the contributors to Carl Sagan’s award-winning Cosmos PBS-Television series, his work has received recognition from such notables (and fellow stargazers) as Sir Arthur Clarke, Johnny Carson, Ray Bradbury, Dr. Wernher von Braun, and former student – NASA scientist/astronaut Dr. Jay Apt. His 50-year mission as a “celestial evangelist” has been to “celebrate the universe!” – to get others to look up at the majesty of the heavens and to personally experience the joys of stargazing. It’s estimated that more than a million people of all ages and backgrounds have heard his inspiring message. In February of 2005 he was elected a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Astronomical Society of London.

An inspiring, illustrated tour of the universe by noted astronomer James Mullaney, vividly portraying its awesome beauty, power and order, and humanity’s intimate connection with it all. Topics discussed include the overwhelming evidence of the handiwork of a Creator, Biblical references to the stars and other civilizations, Genesis & creation theories, the NASA astronauts' spiritual experiences in space, the birth/evolution/death of stars and their planets, the latest optical/radio/spacecraft searches for extraterrestrial life, the religious and philosophical implications of its discovery, prophecy/Earth changes/cosmic cataclysms, the Vatican's new observatory and its "Pope Scope," and the merger of science and religion now under way. The primary theme is that we came from the stars (being literally made of star dust!) and are soon to return to them to claim our heritage as "star children" and ultimate destiny as "citizens of the universe." Optional Q&A session and/or telescopic stargazing (weather permitting) follows the formal program itself.

(Please note: this program has been presented to hundreds of schools, colleges, universities, private academies, retreats, churches, professional societies, service organizations and conferences across the US and abroad.)

This inspiring, illustrated tour of the universe by noted astronomer James Mullaney vividly portrays the awesome power, beauty and order of the cosmos! Topics include overwhelming evidence of the handiwork of a Creator, Biblical references to the stars and other worlds, Genesis and the Big Bang, the NASA astronauts’ spiritual experiences on the Moon, religious and philosophical implications of the search for extraterrestrial life, the Vatican’s Advanced Technology Telescope (the “Pope Scope”), latest stunning images from the Hubble Space Telescope, the ongoing dialogue between science and religion, profound new discoveries in cosmology, humanity’s intimate connection with the cosmos (we are made of stardust!), and our ultimate destiny as children of the stars. Truly a “must see” for those weak in their faith, skeptics, agnostics, and even outright atheists! Optional Q&A session and/or telescopic stargazing (weather permitting) follows the formal program itself.

An exhilarating, slide-illustrated voyage across the vastness of space and time, portraying the awesome beauty of the heavens awaiting our inspection every clear night. Relates the joys of skywatching and how to personally tap mto the cosmos by observing the heavens with the unaided eye, binoculars and small telescopes. Explores the metaphysical benefits of astronomy as a vehicle for therapeutic relaxation, meditation, expansion of consciousness, spiritual contact and "astral travel." This presentation shows that stargazing is indeed an escape - one from unreality, back to the timeless world of nature itself! Program concludes with actual telescope viewing of celestial showpieces, weather (and time of day) permitting.

A mind-expanding, slide-illustrated journey through space, time and mind surveying the provocative and momentous subjects of unidentified flying objects (UFO's) and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). Topics include pilot and NASA astronaut sightings, theories of UFO origin and purpose, evidence for ET visitations throughout history, optical and radio searches for other planets and civilizations, black holes and space-time warps, political/social/religious ramifications of ET contact, prophecy and coming Earth changes, and our heritage as "star children" and ultimate destiny as "cosmic man."
